GENERAL FACTS ABOUT WHITENING CREAMS

W

hitening agents become a common ingredient used in many basic skincare products such as moisturizers, anti-wrinkle creams or Sunscreen. These 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 products can only whiten the skin to a certain extent. They are sold at a relatively low price to consumers.

And for those pure whitening creams, a high quality one tends to have a premium price. And the one given a quick result with a cheap price is normally toxic and having undesirable side effects.

THE 2 POPULAR SKIN WHITENING INGREDIENTS WHICH ARE PROHIBITED IN SOME PARTS OF THE WORLD:

1

Mercury: Despite the severe side effects of Mercury, it is today still a common ingredient found in many whitening cosmetics due to its dramatically quick result and its cheap cost. If used for long period, Mercury can start accumulating in the body and can lead to liver damage and kidney failure.

Mercury also deteriorates and weakens the skin. A common occurrence found in many cases of users is that the veins become visible as the outer layer of the skin is destroyed causing skin to become over-sensitive.

2

Hydroquinone: Whitening cream with over 2% of Hydroquinone will have damaging effects with long-term use. The most common symptoms are skin reddening, a burn sensation and itchiness and for sensitive skins rashes can occur.

In some countries Hydroquinone is completely banned because it may cause cancer. Prolonged usage has been shown to also cause loss of skin elasticity. It is recommended that daily usage should not continue more than 6 months.
